Deland Airport Mid-Air Collision
On December 3, 1999, a mid-air collision occurred involving an Embry Riddle training plane. A Riddle instructor and student were taking off in a Piper Cadet at Deland when another flight instructor and student from another flight school collided with it over the departure end of the runway. All four occupants were killed.
Mr. Hill was hired as the lead counsel to represent the university. By using the radar data for the airport, Mr. Hill demonstrated that traffic had been using the same runway as the Riddle plane for at least two hours before the accident, and that the other plane had entered the pattern against the existing traffic flow.
